Marchesa Bridal Show in NYC
I've covered New York Fashion Week every season (February and September) since 2007, and have shot dozens if not hundreds of fashion shows, but this was the first time I had the opportunity to shoot a bridal show in NYC, so this was a real treat! In particular, I have shot the Spring and Fall Marchesa Collections several years in a row, but this was my first time shooting Marchesa's Bridal Collection. The vibe of a bridal show is MUCH different from a regular NYC fashion week show. It was so much more intimate, more calm and laid back. Everyone seemed in a more relaxed state of mind...maybe that is because they did not get 4 hours of sleep the night before like during typical fashion week, and they hadn't attended 5 other shows that day, running out of each one to battle for a cab to get to the next... Everyone was well-rested and eager to see what beautiful wedding gowns Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were going to send down the runway this season. One of the sweetest things about this show was that both designers had recently had a baby, both of whom were there attending the show with their families/caregivers! Georgina's baby was only 8 days old, and already at her first fashion show! This was cool for me, because it was one of the very first jobs I shot after my maternity leave, having just had my baby Rocco in February. So, the whole experience was synergistic. I had a great time shooting the models backstage getting their hair and makeup done by Revlon, getting fitted for their first looks, and then shooting them coming down the runway. The dresses were gorgeous...so romantic. I'd go back to shoot New York International Bridal Week any year!
